Static and seismic retrofit of the San Martino viaduct, with northbound and southbound carriageways, carried out while the interchange around it stays open to traffic.

MODO developed the detailed design for the retrofit: replacing the deteriorated existing bearings with elastomeric seismic isolators, plus concrete surface repairs, organised in construction phases on both carriageways.

Technical highlights: deck jacking for bearing replacement and seismic isolation that changes the viaduct's dynamic response without rebuilding the piers, with concrete repairs restoring cover and durability to deck and substructures.
