Cross-section: new deck on steel bracket at existing pier
A new cycle and pedestrian crossing alongside the existing 1960s overpass No. 55 at Ala, Trentino. It connects the Adige cycle route to the town over about 170 m, crossing the river, the A22 motorway and the Verona–Brennero railway.
MODO developed the detailed design of the new steel decks and substructures. This included verification of the existing piers and foundations, BIM modelling of the existing and new structures, construction phasing and erection schemes.

Technical highlights: a five-span continuous twin-girder deck with orthotropic plate, about 27 m spans, plus a 17 m railway span. The new deck rests on steel brackets fixed to the existing piers through a post-tensioned reinforced-concrete collar. The project was framed as a local intervention under NTC 2018.
